CAYLEY IMS (Intramural Sport)
What is IMS?
IMS is a free programme of sports available to all students studying at Loughborough University. It is
where Hall teams compete against each other in leagues and one day events.
Why compete in IMS?
It’s a great way to get involved in Hall life, meet new people, play some new sports, or all your
favourite sports from school. Even if you aren’t playing IMS, many people just enjoy supporting their
Hall and friends by cheering them on.
How does IMS work?
Hall of residence teams compete in each sports league or event throughout the year and are
awarded points dependant on their final position in each.
The Hall with the largest points total at the end of the year is deemed the winner (men’s and
women’s scored separately), and the Hall with the largest total when the men’s and women’s totals
are added, is deemed the overall winner.
Different sports are worth different amounts of IMS points. They are split up into A, B, C and D grade
sports where A grade receive more overall points than the D.
Are IMS sports single or mixed gender?
Most of the events that are competed between the halls are single sex; both men and woman
variations are catered for. However there are some events which are played as mixed, such as
Volleyball and Tennis
What sports are competed in IMS?

Can anyone compete in IMS?
To compete in IMS you must be affiliated with the hall you compete for. All freshers will immediately
be affiliated with the hall they stay in, however for returners who live in town, they must pay to be
properly allowed to compete.
Also, depending on the event, if a student has represented Loughborough Students or the University
in that year they are ineligible to compete in that particular IMS event.
Why Cayley for IMS?
Although Cayley are one of the smallest halls in the Loughborough Campus, the hall spirit when it
comes to sport is fantastic. We have some of the best IMS sportsmen and woman, with many going
on to represent the hall in IMS Allstars at the end of the year (in Football, Hockey, Basketball and
Netball).
Last year, Cayley won Men’s Athletics and Men’s Swimming, with a lot of 2nd and 3rd places in
Squash, Rugby, Basketball and Football. The Men were placed 6th overall, however we didn’t receive
any points for Waterpolo which we competed in, and had we received those points we would have
come 2nd. It shows how tight the competition is between all the halls, and this forthcoming year, we
are planning to come out on top!
How do you get involved with IMS?
Once you’ve arrived and settled into your new rooms, we will make you aware of any sports which
we are doing trials for, and also just keep you updated with events which are coming up. As long as
you stay contactable and flexible around game times, everyone should be able to get involved.
